JOB SUMMARY

The Sustaining Engineer Intern is responsible for supporting continuous improvement initiatives for our commercialized TMINI System. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a regulated medical device environment, supporting lifecycle of products already in clinical use. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues and perform data-driven investigations. This internship is based in the Fremont, CA office.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Characterization Testing: Execute benchtop testing and protocols to characterize product performance. This includes designing test setups, collecting data, and performing statistical analysis to verify that design changes or material substitutions meet specifications.
  • CAPA Support: Support the Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) process by helping to track action items, gather objective evidence for resolutions, and assist in the implementation of long-term fixes for identified quality issues.
  • Sustaining Projects: Contribute to engineering projects aimed at improving product reliability, product quality, and manufacturing yields.
  • Complaint Investigation & Analysis: Assist in the technical evaluation of customer complaints and field performance data. Help identify root causes for device malfunctions and document findings in accordance with quality standards.
  • Documentation: Draft and update project impact assessments, project closure checklists, test protocols and technical reports.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Enrolled in or a recent graduate of a BS or MS program in Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Comfortable working hands-on with hardware and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and applicable Quality System Standards.
  • Able to work full time in Fremont, CA for at least 3 to 6 months.

Preferred:

  • Experience using SolidWorks.
  • Experience with CAD modeling and rapid prototyping/3D printing.
  • Familiarity with Python for data analysis and scripting.
  • Experience writing test automation or data processing scripts in Python, MATLAB, or similar.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position and operate office equipment for a prolonged period of time.
  • Physical activities include, but not limited to constant manual dexterity, moving about the work site, and/or handling objects weighing up to 20 lbs.
  • Other infrequent physical activities include, but not limited to, positioning self to complete assigned tasks, and ascending/descending floors and/or ladders.
  • Occasionally work around moving mechanical parts.
  • Must be able to work in a schedule that commensurate with business operation, including work during weekends, holidays and/or times outside of normal business hours.
  • Must be able to travel as business necessitates (up to 5%).
