ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Drives and operates automotive equipment to determine malfunction and repairs and maintains all types of automotive equipment.
- Inspects and tests equipment at prescribed intervals of time and usage or upon malfunction.
- Overhauls internal combustion engines.
- Installs new ignition systems, aligns front wheels, changes or recharges batteries and replaces transmissions and other parts.
- Inspects, tests, aligns, wheels and maintains electrical systems and controls in automobiles. Examines protective guards, loose bolts and specified safety devices on vehicles and makes adjustments.
- Balances wheels to minimize wear on tires and rotate wheels at prescribed mileage intervals.
- Tunes up engine to maintain combustion control standards.
- Adjusts equipment to standards set by state DOT for motor vehicles inspections and safety standards.
- Lubricates moving parts and drives repaired vehicles to verify conformance to specifications.
- Uses hoist wrenches, gauges, drills or grinders or other specialized auto mechanic tools and equipment.
- Continual the-job training will be required to successfully maintain classification level. Tests will cover all phases of automotive technology. The testing will be administered and reviewed by the Transportation Manager or designated representative.
- Regular Attendance Required. All duties performed on-site for the Community.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school and extensive mechanical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience that produces the following:
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job.
- Knowledge of PC and applicable software programs.
- Knowledge of electronics and their application in vehicles of all types.
- Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and techniques used in the repair automotive and related equipment.
- Knowledge of OBDII codes and their application.
- Knowledge of welding and some metal fabrication.
- Knowledge of the use of diagnostic tools, lab scope, scanner, DVOM, engine analyzer, graphing multi-meter and gas analyzer.
- Ability to read and write work-related job instructions in English.
- Ability to read and follow complex diagnostic procedure manuals.
- Ability to pass general mechanical and electrical skills and knowledge tests, both oral and written.
- Skill in the use and operation of tools and machinery used in mechanical repair work.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain a valid Class A California driver's license.
- Ability to obtain two of the following ASE certificates:

- Manual Drive Train & Axles
- Gasoline Engines
- Brakes
- Suspension & Steering
- Electrical Systems
- Engine Performance
- Factory certifications from Ford, GM, Chevrolet, Dodge, and other comparable manufacturers will be considered in lieu of ASE's
*This is a Monday-Friday on site role. Working hours are from 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm
