Rincon Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Senior GIS Lead – Energy & Utilities to join our team and apply advanced GIS expertise in mapping, spatial analysis, data management and web GIS application development. In this role, you will serve as the lead for GIS data, workflows, field tools, and systems that support Rincon’s Energy & Utilities market sector. This position combines senior-level GIS technical work with leadership in developing and maintaining efficient, scalable solutions that support complex environmental and infrastructure projects.
You will support staff across disciplines by managing large GIS datasets, developing and deploying GIS data schemas, creating custom maps, performing advanced spatial analyses, and overseeing deployment of Esri field and web applications such as ArcGIS Online, Survey123, Field Maps, and Experience Builder. You will also play a key role in deploying configurable GIS solutions across multiple projects and programs, ensuring consistency and efficiency in client deliverables. Experience with field data collection and enterprise-level GIS system administration is essential, along with proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, and related platforms.
In addition to technical leadership, this role will serve as a GIS and innovation advocate, helping staff and clients understand the value of geospatial solutions, building strong lines of communication, and championing best practices in data-driven decision-making.

Additionally, to promote in-person collaboration and client teaming, we prioritize hiring those who reside within 50 miles of a Rincon office which currently includes: Carlsbad, Fresno, Los Angeles, Monterey, Oakland, Palm Springs, Riverside, Sacramento, San Luis Obispo, San Diego, San Jose, Santa Barbara, and Ventura.
Overview of Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead GIS support for Rincon’s Energy & Utilities market sector, overseeing GIS data management, workflows, and systems integration.
- Develop, configure, and maintain field data collection solutions (Survey123, Field Maps) and ensure seamless integration with enterprise GIS systems.
- Organize, update, and validate large geospatial datasets, implementing automated QA/QC processes using scripts, queries, and database tools.
- Design, test, and implement GIS tools and applications to improve project efficiency and client reporting.
- Collaborate with technical teams to integrate CAD, drone, and LiDAR data into GIS workflows.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to GIS analysts and project staff, ensuring consistent standards and best practices.
- Stay current on emerging GIS, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and automation technologies, applying them to improve workflows and support large-scale utility projects.
- Produce high-quality GIS products, including custom maps, reports, and interactive web maps using ArcGIS Online and other tools.
- Support business development by participating in interviews, helping secure GIS-focused contracts in the Energy & Utilities sector, and contributing to proposals and cost estimates for GIS and data development work.
- Act as a GIS advocate and innovation champion, strengthening communication across teams and promoting best practices in applying geospatial technology.
This Job Might Be for You If You Have the Following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Cartography, Environmental Science, or a related field, or a GIS certificate from an accredited institution.
- At least 10 years of environmental consulting experience in the A/E/C industry.
- Proficiency with GIS tools and applications, including ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro), ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal, Server), Survey123, FieldMaps, and Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with publicly available GIS data sources.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Desired:
- Experience working with energy, utility, or infrastructure clients
- Experience supporting business development efforts, including participating in client interviews, contributing to proposals, and developing cost estimates for GIS and data solutions.
- Experience mentoring junior staff or leading technical teams.
- Familiarity with UAV/drone and remote sensing data workflows.
- Exposure to Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and automation applications in GIS.
- Drafting using AutoCAD or other drafting software
- 3D mapping and modeling
- Previous experience with relational database development
- R, Python, HTML, JavaScript, PHP, SQL, Visual Basic, C#, or other programming experience
- IT/Networking/Hardware/General Desktop Support and Troubleshooting experience

The base salary range for this full-time position is $90,000–$140,000, plus benefits and bonus. At Rincon, our salary ranges are based on market median of similar jobs, according to third party salary benchmark surveys. The base pay that is actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
