The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and accounting functions. This position manages complex tasks including grant billing, fixed asset management, lease accounting, and financial reporting in alignment with GAAP and FQHC regulations. The Senior Accountant will work closely with program managers and grant coordinators to support budget forecasting, track spending, and ensure compliance across multiple funding sources.
Essential Duties
· Prepare and record journal entries including lease accounting, patient revenue and adjustments as needed.
· Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly.
· Manage fixed assets, ensuring accurate capitalization, depreciation, and leading the annual physical inventory process.
· Track, report, and bill multiple grants and funding sources, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., 330 grants, HRSA, Medicaid/Medicare, etc.).
· Prepare and submit cost and financial reports for funders and governmental agencies.
· Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring all reporting is accurate, timely, and complies with GAAP and accounting standards.
· Support the development and monitoring of grant and annual budgets, ensuring proper allocation and compliance with funding guidelines.
· Monitor actual spending against budgets and provide variance analysis to management.
· Assist with audit preparations, including documentation gathering and responding to auditor inquiries.
· Ensure compliance with internal controls, FQHC regulations, and policies to mitigate financial risk.
· Collaborate with accounting colleagues, program managers, and grant coordinators to support budget forecasting for new and renewal grant funding and resolve discrepancies or compliance issues.
· Assist the Accounting Manager with other departmental tasks as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
· 5+ years of experience in similar role required, with at least 3 years in a non-profit and/or healthcare setting preferred.
· Strong understanding of GAAP and non-profit accounting principles.
· Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, or similar), and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Work Environment
This is a fully onsite position located in Sacramento, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $44.18 - $44.18/hr.
