Job Title: Metrology Technician
Santa Rosa, CA | ⏰ Day Shift: Monday–Friday | $24–$26/hr DOE
Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Metrology Technician to apply measurement science, mathematics, and physics to develop, document, and maintain calibration systems, procedures, and methods. This role covers a wide range of disciplines including electrical, dimensional, optical, physical, mechanical, and environmental inspection, measurement, and test equipment (IM&TE). The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in calibration practices and measurement principles to ensure precision and traceability to National Metrology Institutes (NMI).
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, document, and maintain calibration systems and procedures
- Apply measurement uncertainty calculations, guardbanding, and traceability practices
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair test and measurement equipment down to the component level
- Perform calibration, adjustments, and preventive maintenance of IM&TE
- Utilize technical manuals, schematics, and calibration management software
- Promote adherence to ESD compliance, Service Notes, and quality assurance practices
- Support continuous improvement initiatives through Six Sigma and Lean methodologies
- Maintain high workmanship standards while meeting deadlines and quality expectations
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Solid understanding of measurement uncertainty, guardbanding, and calibration principles
- Strong knowledge of ANSI/ISO 9001, ANSI/Z540-3, and ISO 17025 standards
- Proficiency in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing test equipment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills
- Strong computer skills, with experience in calibration management software (e.g., VEE, Unix RMB, ETMS/Gemini, MS Office)
- Experience in software development or modification processes (preferred)
- Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean principles
- High level of business ethics and attention to detail
Desired Skills:
- PMEL/Metrology background or military calibration training
- Experience with automated calibration systems
- Hands-on experience with a variety of test and measurement instrumentation
- Prior work in a Standards Laboratory environment (highly desired)
Education & Experience:
- Associate’s degree in Electronics or related field, OR
- Military PMEL certification, OR
5+ years of relevant experience in calibration and repair of test measurement equipment
