Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled Mechanic to join our busy tire and auto repair shop. As an Auto Mechanic, you will assist our customers by diagnosing and repairing issues with vehicles performance and function. You must demonstrate an in-depth understanding of all vehicle systems and components. You will also be responsible for maintaining repair shop equipment, and at times preparing cost estimates.This role requires high technical competency, a strong attention to detail, and a commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
The ideal candidate is skilled in communicating with customers, able to explain vehicle issues clearly and concisely and provide valuable advice.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair vehicles coming into the shop (domestic and import).
- Carry out routine vehicle maintenance tasks and perform engine, transmission, brake, suspension, steering, A/C, and driveline repairs
- Conduct in-depth vehicle inspections of all systems, including engine, transmission, and brakes and recommend appropriate maintenance or repairs
- Use diagnostic tools, scan equipment, and repair manuals to accurately assess and fix issues
- Create repair estimates and timelines and convey information to customers in an easy-to-understand manner
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of all services performed
- Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and repeat business
- Communicate clearly with service advisors regarding findings and repair timelines
- Adhere to all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and company policies
- Keep personal and shared tools clean, organized, and in good working condition
- Stay up to date with latest automotive technologies, tools, and repair procedures
- Provide mentorship or guidance to apprentice technicians as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED is required
- Associate degree or completion of an automotive service technician training program is preferred
- Must have 35+ years of experience as an auto technician
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools, repair software, and shop equipment
- Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in a physically demanding environment
- Valid drivers license with a clean driving record
- Strong customer service, communication skills, time management, and organizational skills
Preferred Certifications:
- Current ASE certification in at least one area (A1A8 or equivalent)or Society of Automotive Engineers/SAE certification
- ASE Master Technician Status is ideal
- OEM training or experience with specific brands
- EPA 609 certification for A/C repair (preferred)
