Position Summary:

Are you passionate about working outdoors and making landscapes thrive? Oakridge Landscape is seeking motivated and dependable Erosion Control Laborers to join our Erosion Division team. This role plays a vital part in protecting the environment and supporting construction projects by installing, maintaining, and removing erosion and sediment control systems. Work is conducted outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and terrain, providing a dynamic and hands-on work environment. The ideal candidate is reliable, proactive, and eager to grow their skills in the landscape industry.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing and maintaining construction sites, including clearing debris and ensuring proper drainage.
  • Install, inspect, maintain, and remove erosion control measures such as silt fences, wattles, straw blankets, gravel bags, hydroseeding, and other Best Management Practices (BMPs).
  • Operate and maintain equipment such as hydroseeders, straw blowers, mulch blowers and water trucks.
  • Perform physical labor including digging, lifting, bending, and loading/unloading materials.
  • Read site plans or instructions to ensure correct placement of erosion control products.
  • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with local, state, and federal environmental and stormwater regulations.
  • Identify and report site issues or potential erosion risks to the supervisor.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by following company and OSHA safety standards.
  • Some roles may require operating heavy equipment or machinery.

Teamwork

  • Collaborate with crew members to complete Erosion projects on time, according to specifications.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and tools.
  • Follow safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all team members.

Communication and Growth

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in Spanish and demonstrate a willingness to learn basic English communication skills.
  • Show initiative in learning new skills and improving knowledge of Erosion Control techniques.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in landscape, construction, or erosion control preferred but not required; on-the-job training available.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in physically demanding environments.
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record preferred.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work as part of a team, and communicate effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills & attention to detail.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Bilingual (English/ Spanish) is preferred.

Physical Requirements and working conditions

The physical requirement is working outdoors in various and sometimes harsh weather conditions—including rain, wind, intense heat, and muddy environments. Candidates must be comfortable performing tasks in these elements on a regular basis.

  • Hearing: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Speaking: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job, such as communicating with multiple personnel.
  • Vision: Normal visual acuity.
  • Walking: Able to walk for a prolonged period outdoors.
  • Stand: Able to stand, bend stoop, knell as need during job walkthrough.
  • Lifting to 50 lbs.
  • Pushing up to 50 lbs.
