The Senior Backend Developer will lead and execute complex DTC and B2B e-commerce platform initiatives for multiple clients within our agency. In this role, they will own backend architecture, data flows, integrations, and automation within Shopify Plus ecosystems. The ideal candidate brings agency experience, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is passionate about building scalable, reliable commerce systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead backend technical strategy and implementation for DTC and B2B Shopify Plus projects
- Translate business requirements into backend system architecture, data models, and integration plans
- Customize and extend Shopify functionality through custom apps, APIs, webhooks, and automationDesign and execute data migrations from legacy platforms, ERPs, PIMs, and third-party systems into Shopify
- Integrate third-party services (ERP, OMS, WMS, PDM, marketing platforms, etc.) with Shopify
- Build automated workflows for orders, inventory, customer data, fulfillment, and reporting
- Develop and maintain custom Shopify apps and internal tooling to improve platform operations
- Monitor, debug, and resolve platform and integration issues in production environments
- Conduct code reviews and establish backend development best practices
- Ensure system performance, scalability, reliability, and security across all implementations
- Provide technical guidance to project teams and support client-facing troubleshooting as needed
Qualifications
- 5+ years of production backend development experience, with 2+ years focused on Shopify Plus
- Deep expertise in Shopify APIs, webhooks, app development, and platform automation
- Strong proficiency in Node.js, Python (or comparable backend frameworks)
- Experience with data migrations and system integrations (ERP, PIM, OMS, CRM, etc.)
- Experience extending Shopify with Shopify Flow, Mechanic, Shopify Functions, and Web Pixels a plus
- Solid understanding of relational databases and data modeling
- Experience working with queues, background jobs, and event-driven architectures
- Proficiency with Git and collaborative code workflows
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines
- Agency or multi-client project experience strongly preferred
