Position Summary
We are looking for an experienced and highly technical Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in a hands-on role supporting aerospace component and assembly production. In our fast-paced, small-company environment, this individual will be directly involved in process development, tooling, quality compliance, and shop floor support. The ideal candidate is versatile, detail-oriented, and capable of driving projects from concept through production while ensuring compliance with aerospace industry standards.
Reports to Director of Operations
Works with Director of Operations and General Manager to define the manufacturing process steps and analyzing data for aerospace, defense manufacturing using CNC and conventional machining, outside processing, assembly, and materials handling.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Plans sequence of operations for the fabrication of machined parts using 2 to 5 axis lathes; 3 and 4 axis horizontal and vertical mills; as well as 5 axis mills and conventional machining equipment.
- Collaborates with department leads and uses extensive machining and blueprint reading experience to complete customer RFQ’s for new and existing parts.
- Create Item Masters, Bills of Materials and Operation details for new and existing parts and assemblies in MRP system.
- Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout
- Evaluates and prepares process and product reports for daily production
- Provide support to operations creating routings, set-up, 1st articles, SPC and AS9102 first article reports
- Works closely with customers’ engineering teams to ensure the design concepts and specifications support the most efficient manufacturing methods and techniques
- Troubleshoots manufacturing issues on the floor, dispositions rework, and initiates process improvements
- Assists operations in ensuring job orders, 1st articles, SPC and production logs are properly filled out and maintained daily.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist in creation of customer quotes, coordinate machining and assembly time estimates, direct clerks in requesting quotes for materials, hardware and outside processing required.
- Assist in directing movement of materials through required work centers to ensure customer schedules are met, trouble shoot and address any bottleneck processes or operations.
- Provide daily technical support on the shop floor, troubleshooting machining, assembly, and special process challenges.
- Train and mentor operators, machinists, and junior engineers.
- Analyze cost data to determine if parts are meeting quoted cost targets, update and monitor Item Masters as needed
Tooling & Equipment
- Design, procure, and validate tooling, fixtures, and gauges needed for production.
- Collaborate with machinists and technicians to optimize setups, reduce cycle times, and improve repeatability.
Quality & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with AS9100, ITAR, customer specifications, and NADCAP requirements for applicable special processes (heat treat, coatings, NDT, welding, etc.).
• Work closely with Quality to investigate nonconformances, lead root cause analysis, and implement corrective/preventive actions.
Continuous Improvement & Cost Reduction
- Apply Lean and Six Sigma principles to streamline processes, reduce waste, and improve efficiency.
- Drive cost reduction through smarter tooling, setup reduction, and process improvements.
- Proactively identify opportunities to enhance safety, quality, and productivity.
Desired Skills:
Technical skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Experience with creating Item Masters, Bills of Materials and part routings in an MRP system.
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Experience with CNC machining and assembly in aerospace, defense
- Experience with use of precision measuring equipment, gages, and processes (conventional devices, CMM, SPC, gage R&R, etc.)
- Experience with special processes (heat treat, coatings, welding, composites, or NDT).
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM (SolidWorks, Mastercam, CATIA, or NX).
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems in a production environment.
- Knowledge of AS9100, ITAR, NADCAP, and AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements.
Soft Skills:
- Hands-on, flexible, and able to pivot between technical engineering and day-to-day production support.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with shop floor, quality, suppliers, and customers.
- Self-starter who thrives in a smaller team environment where ownership and accountability are key.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of experience in manufacturing – significant aerospace and defense industry experience required
Physical Requirements:
- Must be physically able to stand for prolonged periods to observe manufacturing processes.
- Able to physically move unimpeded to assist in trouble shooting, maintenance and setup of equipment to assist production.
