Senior Product Safety Manager

Location: Hybrid (Burlingame & Redwood City, CA – Mon–Wed in-office)

Travel: Frequent international travel to manufacturing sites in Asia required

Reports to: Chief Safety Officer

Salary & Benefits: $180-200k+ extensive benefits (see below)

Key Requirements

We are seeking a strategic and technically skilled product safety leader with strong electrical engineering credentials. The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record in consumer product safety, particularly in electrically powered goods, and possess both deep regulatory knowledge and a pragmatic, collaborative approach to integrating safety into product design.


Must-have qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • 11+ years in product safety management, with a focus on electrical/consumer products
  • Expertise in global safety regulations and standards (UL, CE, IEC, etc.)
  • Proficiency in FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, and safety testing methodologies
  • Experience managing incident investigations, root cause analysis, and CAPA
  • Strong documentation and certification process knowledge
  • Familiarity with EMC, Wireless, and Environmental compliance considerations
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams and driving cross-functional alignment
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and stakeholder influencing skills
  • Comfortable with frequent international travel, particularly to Asia-based factories

Preferred qualifications:

  • Background in consumer electronics
  • Familiarity with reliability engineering and statistical safety analysis
  • Hands-on experience with lab testing equipment and certification labs
  • Experience building QA/safety teams and nurturing a safety-first culture


Role & Responsibilities

The Senior Product Safety Manager will lead the end-to-end safety programme for the company’s licensed decorative lighting range, embedding risk-aware practices into product development, testing, and commercialisation.

Programme Leadership

  • Define and evolve the organisation’s product safety vision and risk tolerance
  • Lead the global safety programme across all phases of product lifecycle
  • Stay ahead of regulatory and market developments; identify emerging risks
  • Act as a safety culture champion across engineering, sourcing, and QA teams

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure full compliance with relevant global safety regulations (UL, CE, IEC, etc.)
  • Lead hazard analyses and conduct detailed risk assessments at product and component levels
  • Oversee and improve testing protocols, including misuse scenarios and feature validation

Incident Response & Continuous Improvement

  • Investigate product safety incidents and lead root cause and CAPA activities
  • Implement feedback loops using data, incident learnings, and benchmarks to strengthen future product safety

Regulatory Affairs & Documentation

  • Own all compliance documentation: test results, certifications, technical files, etc.
  • Guide development of compliant user manuals, labels, and warnings (e.g. UL 588, IEC 60598)

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Provide expert technical input to product, engineering, legal, and sourcing teams
  • Deliver training on global safety protocols and evolving standards to internal teams and factory partners
