Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, attentive Independent Living Services (ILS) Instructor to provide afternoon support for an individual with short stature due to an endocrine disorder, moderate intellectual disability, and cerebral palsy. The role focuses on promoting safety, independence, and meaningful participation in daily activities and the community. The ideal candidate is patient, observant, and comfortable providing hands-on assistance while maintaining dignity and respect.
Primary Goals of Support
- Support participation in community outings and activities
- Develop and strengthen cooking and meal planning skills
- Assist with personal care routines to promote independence and safety
- Ensure a safe environment across all settings
Key Responsibilities
Community Outings
- Provide supervision and support during community activities and outings
- Encourage engagement in meaningful activities while ensuring safety
- Assist with planning outings appropriate to the individual’s abilities and interests
Cooking & Meal Planning
- Support meal planning, simple food preparation, and kitchen safety
- Provide hands-on assistance as needed during cooking tasks
- Reinforce routines and skills related to nutrition and daily living
Personal Care & Daily Living Support
- Assist with dressing and personal care tasks as needed
- Promote independence by encouraging participation in daily routines
- Provide respectful, person-centered support
Safety & Supervision
- Remain nearby and attentive during all waking hours to prevent injury or harm
- Provide close supervision in home and community settings
- Assist with transitions and mobility as needed to ensure safety
Identified Challenges to Address
- Dressing Assistance: The individual requires support with dressing and personal care tasks
- Safety Awareness: Ongoing supervision is necessary during waking hours to reduce risk of injury or harm in all environments
Work Environment
- One-on-one support in the individual’s home and community
- Afternoon-only schedule
- Structured, supportive, and safety-focused setting
Requirements:
Required Qualifications & Compliance
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual or physical disabilities preferred
- Patient, dependable, and safety-focused approach
- Strong communication and observation skills
- Ability to provide hands-on assistance as needed
- Two forms of valid identification
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Live Scan fingerprint clearance
- TB test clearance
