Sterilization Systems Maintenance Technologist
Job Description
Job DescriptionMake Every Repair Count
At STERIS Applied Sterilization Technologies (AST), your work helps protect patients, clinicians, and consumers around the world. With a network of 50+ facilities and 40 years of contract sterilization expertise, we operate as One Team with One Goal—safety.
A Day in the Life
It’s 6:00 a.m. You open the CMMS, triage overnight alerts, and head to the production floor. A validated piece of processing equipment is due for preventive maintenance—you lock and tag it out, verify SDS guidance, and get to work. Later, you’re troubleshooting a control panel fault, tracing wiring from a schematic to a PLC I/O card. In between, you’ll swap a lighting fixture in the facility, log safety inspection results to GMP standards, and flag a Lean improvement to optimize a PM interval. Before noon, you’ve helped a teammate diagnose a servo-driven conveyor issue and updated spare parts on hand. By day’s end, the line is running, downtime is minimized, and the CMMS is fully up to date.
Your Impact
- Diagnose and resolve issues across multiple modalities, technologies, and areas within a validated, cGMP environment.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on high-volume processing equipment and review PM tasks for effectiveness, recommending Lean/5S improvements.
- Boost uptime through predictive and preventive work on machinery and facility systems; participate in new equipment installs.
- Maintain electrical systems and facility lighting; install/repair wiring and fixtures; handle general maintenance (landscaping, painting, carpentry).
- Advance a safe, clean, secure workplace by completing daily/weekly/quarterly/semi-annual inspections and documentation to GMP standards; follow LOTO, SDS, and all environmental waste/disposal requirements.
- Support production by completing assigned shift work and responding to off-shift maintenance calls as needed; support after-hours emergency response as required.
- Administer spare parts, documenting repairs or escalating for supervisor decisions; maintain shop tools and inventory; keep the CMMS current.
- Review work instructions, policies, and procedures; participate in on-the-job training and demonstrate role competency.
Note: Depending on sterilization modality (e.g., Gamma), this role is physically demanding and requires strength and endurance.
