Job DescriptionDirect Counsel is representing a successful Business Defense firm in a passive search for a sharp, self-sufficient Employment Defense Associate Attorney with 4–6 years of experience. This is a key role for a motivated legal professional who can manage a variety of defense-side employment law cases—particularly PAGA matters—and who is also interested in supporting business and/or business litigation while contributing to the growth of the firm’s employment law practice.

Key Responsibilities:

Independently manage and litigate a caseload of employment law defense matters, with a focus on PAGA and wage-and-hour claims.

Strategically assess cases and outsource complex matters only when absolutely necessary.

Provide practical, client-centered advice on employment-related issues including policies, compliance, and risk management.

Assist with business and/or business litigation matters as needed.

Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, and appear in court, mediations, and administrative hearings.

Collaborate with partners and clients to execute litigation strategy effectively.
Qualifications:

4–6 years of employment law experience, with an emphasis on defense-side representation.

Proficiency in handling PAGA, wage-and-hour class actions, wrongful termination, and workplace discrimination matters.

Experience or strong interest in supporting business litigation or business advisory matters.

Excellent legal writing, research, and courtroom advocacy skills.

Able to work independently with sound judgment and client-first mindset.

Licensed and in good standing with the California State Bar.
