About the Role: As an Tutor at Tutor Me Education, you’ll provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring to students with special needs in their homes. You will be responsible for helping students with daily activities, offering moral support, and delivering tailored instruction based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
We are currently hiring for multiple positions across all cities in Joshua Tree, CA
Details:
- In-Person Tutoring in Joshua Tree, CA
- Schedule: Once a week
- Competitive hourly rate based on experience
- Focus Area: EELA and Foundational Math
Ideal Candidate:
- Experience working with students with autism and developmental delays in educational or therapeutic settings
- Familiarity with IEP goals and ability to tailor instruction to meet individual learning needs
- Background in special education, early intervention, ABA, or related fields is preferred
- Ability to manage mild behaviors and maintain a patient, encouraging approach
- Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate with the student's family and support team
- Must be reliable, organized, and comfortable working in a home-based setting
- Knowledge of or experience using manipulatives, visual supports, and other hands-on learning tools
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized instruction in basic math skills, including support with single-digit addition and early subtraction using manipulatives.
- Support early literacy development, focusing on sight word recognition and foundational reading skills.
- Reinforce goals and strategies aligned with the student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP), in coordination with family and related service providers (e.g., OT, speech).
- Use the student’s personal interests—such as cars, trains, Disney movies/music, swimming, and horseback riding—as motivational tools during sessions.
- Manage and redirect mild behavioral challenges, including task refusal, with calm, consistent, and positive reinforcement strategies.
- Provide engaging, structured sessions to help prevent academic regression, particularly during school breaks.
- Create a supportive and encouraging learning environment that builds confidence and fosters progress across academic areas.
