Job Description

Dixon Justice Center is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and personable Legal Assistant / Paralegal to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where you’ll assist with all aspects of case management, client communication, billing, and day-to-day operations of a busy law office.

We’re looking for someone who is dependable, professional, and motivated — a person who takes pride in their work, communicates clearly, and can keep our office running smoothly while delivering exceptional support to our attorneys and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft motions, manage case files, and prepare for DMV hearings.

  • Schedule and coordinate court appearances, Zoom meetings, remote interviews, and other legal proceedings.

  • Communicate professionally with courts, law enforcement, DMV personnel, investigators, law clerks, and clients.

  • Assist with client intake, send out retainer agreements, and follow up on leads.

  • Handle billing, accounts receivable, invoicing, and payment plans.

  • Manage the office calendar, including scheduling interviews and appearances.

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the law office and support remote attorneys and law clerks.

  • Maintain organized records and ensure compliance with office policies and procedures.

  • Perform other assignments as needed to support the legal team.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Penal Code and Vehicle Code preferred.

  • Experience with DMV hearings and calendaring/scheduling court appearances.

  • Strong skills in billing, bookkeeping, and accounts receivable.

  • Excellent communication and client service skills; comfortable speaking with clients and following up on billing/payment plans.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe, and MyCase.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.

  • Self-motivated, dependable, and able to maintain a professional demeanor under pressure.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $42,000 annually ($20.38/hour)

  • Hours: 40 hours/week (Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM)

    • Occasional weekends or after-hours may be required for lead follow-up; comp time during the day will be provided.

  • Annual Christmas Bonus: 3% of gross revenue.

  • Benefits:

    • 6 Paid Holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day)

    • 3 Paid Sick Days (earned at 1 hour per 30 hours worked; no carryover) in accordance with state, federal, and City of Los Angeles law

    • 4 Paid Time Off Days (earned after the initial 90 days)

    • $200/month health insurance allowance after 90 days
