Position Summary: The Quality Assurance Specialist will support activities relating to the Quality Management System (QMS). This position ensures that activities essential to maintaining a functional and compliant QMS are being carried out by Steven Label Group personnel in manners consistent with Steven Label expectations and ISO requirements.
The Quality Assurance Specialist acts as a liaison between the Quality department and other departments within the Steven Label organization. The QA Specialist will support and at times lead initiatives to help achieve QMS based objectives as dictated based on customer feedback or business needs.
Essential Functions of the role include:
- Serve as a point of contact for Quality and QMS related issues.
- Support and lead initiatives to drive change to develop a more robust QMS.
- Identify and escalate quality concerns or potential quality gaps within processes.
- Assist in training personnel in quality concepts as needed or as a result of gap or deficiency identified by internal or external sources.
- Create documents related to or associated with the QMS.
- Conduct in-process and final inspections in the form of spot-checks/spot audits to ensure products meet specifications.
- Lead and conduct internal audits of processes to ensure compliance to the established procedures. Communicate audit findings to the appropriate personnel and Supervisors/Mangers.
- Assist in maintaining document revisions within the QMS to ensure the most current document is accessible.
- Support Root Cause and Corrective Actions (RCCA) when a quality gap is identified.
- Follow up on any necessary activities related to RCCAs to ensure the appropriate activities are being carried out and completed. Monitor progress of activities and report status as required.
- Track and analyze non-conformance information/data to help identify potential process deficiencies.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives following the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) method.
- Assist with external audits (customer, ISO registrar) as needed.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives or cross-departmental projects as needed.
- Communicate as needed with external entities (customers, vendors, etc.) relating to inquiries made (surveys, non-conformances, technical support, etc.)
- Maintain reliable and predictable attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations, Quality Management or similar is preferred but not required.
- A minimum of two years of experience in the printing, packaging, or manufacturing industry (labels, cartons, flexo, offset, or digital preferred).
- Strong knowledge of printing and printing support systems and processes.
- Experience working within an established Quality Management System. Previous ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 experience is strongly preferred. Thorough understanding of Quality concepts.
- Ability to read and interpret job tickets (Work Order), specifications, drawing/blueprints, and proofs.
- Intermediate computer skills with ERP experience
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to train and motivate others.
- Prior leadership or lead experience.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) is a plus but not required.
- Ability to read and understand work instructions in English.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with the ability to travel locally between the company sites up to 30% of the time.
