Registered Nurse - Urology Clinic - Per Diem

Shift: 8:00am - 5:00pm

Job Description:

PATIENT POPULATION:
The patient population served includes geriatric, adult, adolescent, and pediatric. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the department Leader(s), the R.N. ensures the patient receives high quality patient centered care through the provision of coordinated services, the delivery of competent care, the receipt of information and education, and their linkage to available resources to ensure the best possible health outcomes.

The participant's skills and talents will be maximized in a progressive care setting with comprehensive technologies and capabilities that advance a full range of urological procedures. Must be able to work closely and collaboratively with urologists in direct patient care, treatment and teaching; assists developing, implementing, and evaluating patient educational material.

Independently provides holistic, individualized care using the Nursing Process for patients routinely seen in the clinic. Demonstrates an advanced level of clinical competency, nursing judgment, teaching skills, and a commitment to improving the quality of patient care. Independently performs general and unit-specific clinical skills. Contributes to the Sierra View Medical Center Urology Clinic and the Nursing profession in a positive manner.

Is responsible for the assessment, treatment or care appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs. Possesses knowledge of growth and development and has an understanding of the range of treatment needed for all patient groups.

Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. An individual should have evidence of successful interpersonal reactions. Two (2) years experience in nursing with clinic, urological or ASC/D experience preferred. Must have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California. Bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as metric proportions and percentages if required.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Prefer knowledge of Meditech or other sophisticated EMR.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California. Two (2) years experience in nursing with clinic experience preferred. Must have and maintain a current BLS certification.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
*Indicates Essential Function

1 * Establishes and maintains a culture of patient centered care.
2 * Works collaboratively with Medical Assistants in the provision of patient care.
3 * Acts as a resource individual for staff in need of aid in regards to clinical or care coordination issues. As delegated by Clinic Manager, demonstrates and explains difficult or new techniques and procedures.
4 * Assists physician during patient encounters as needed providing care coordination, to include but not limited to lab and imaging ordering, prescription refills, patient education.
5 * Assists with procedures and independently performs urological studies as per scope.
6 * Serves as a resources to the physician and mid-level providers in navigating and problem solving through electronic medical record issues.
7 * Participates in periodic equipment checks to measure accuracy in testing and in support of required CLIA waived testing requirements.
8 * Supports the clinic physicians and mid-level providers by collaborating with entire care team in the provision of well-coordinated exam/procedure room patient flow.
9 * Ensures physicians and mid-level practitioners are familiar with and are supported in their efforts to comply with regulatory requirements and clinic policy and procedures.
10 * Actively participates in achieving and maintaining department compliance with all state, federal and third party regulatory agency standards. Is accountable for maintaining your department at "Survey Ready" status at all times.
11 * Participates in the department's performance improvement activities.
12 * Documentation reflects compliance with established Hospital policies and procedures.

GENERAL DEPARTMENT RESPONBILITIES:
1 Demonstrates adaptability/flexibility in meeting unit needs.
a. Provides staffing support as requested by Clinic Manager.
b. Demonstrates ability/flexibility to assist in unusual clinical situations, i.e. temporary re-assignment, changes in patient activity/re-assignment, changes in patient activity/re-assignment, unscheduled admissions, and life threatening situations.
c. Promotes an atmosphere to open communication with respect for the individual.
d. Accepts and responds to changes in a positive fashion.
