Position Overview:
Aemetis Biogas LLC is seeking a skilled Dairy Biogas Operations Technician to oversee the safe and efficient operation of dairy-based anaerobic digesters, biogas conditioning skids, and auxiliary plant equipment. This role involves monitoring process operations, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with biogas safety protocols. The facility includes digesters, pumps, gas blowers, chillers, and related systems critical to biogas production.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and possesses knowledge of water and gas chemistry, measuring devices, and dairy operations, enabling them to optimize digester performance and biogas quality.
Key Responsibilities:
· Operate and maintain oxygen generation, gas compression, and cleanup systems, ensuring continuous and efficient operation.
· Monitor and adjust gas and fluid flows in process equipment and piping to align with plant operating conditions.
· Clean strainers, wire screens, and other equipment components as needed to maintain operational integrity.
· Utilize locally based computer systems to manage and monitor sub-units within the biogas facility.
· Analyze daily plant data to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement, adjusting operations accordingly.
· Prepare and maintain a variety of records, logs, and reports.
· Perform regular checks of mechanical equipment, including pumps, mixers, screens, valves, gas equipment, etc., and determine the need to adjust, repair, or carry out basic service of equipment.
· Report and facilitate required repairs to equipment, machinery, and electronic systems.
· Assist maintenance personnel in making repairs when needed.
· Respond to after-hours emergencies in alignment with established protocols.
· Lead plant housekeeping efforts and enforce material handling safety precautions to maintain a safe work environment.
· Plan and execute preventative maintenance activities, coordinating with team members as required.
· Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental programs, actively contributing to a safe and incident-free workplace.
· Identify and recommend corrective actions to prevent potential accidents or incidents.
· Perform additional duties as assigned by the Operations & Maintenance Manager or senior management.
Education/Experience:
· Education: Education: High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, biology, chemistry, operations management, or a related field from a technical college preferred.
· Experience: Relevant maintenance and operational experience in an industrial or gas processing environment is desired; military experience or training in a related field may substitute for operational experience.
· Technical Skills:
o Ability to analyze and interpret data to make informed recommendations on biogas facility components.
o Proficiency in reading and understanding mechanical and electrical drawings.
o Competency with computers and operations software.
· Soft Skills:
o Self-motivated with the ability to follow directions and work independently.
o Strong written and oral communication skills.
o Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate effectively.
· Attributes: Safety-focused and detail-oriented.
· Additional Requirements:
o Valid driver’s license and a clean MVR.
o Bilingual skills (Spanish) are welcome, but not required.
Working Conditions:
· Work Environment: The role is based outdoors across various dairy farm sites, with locations ranging from one to ten miles apart. Frequent travel between sites using a company-issued vehicle is required during business hours and on holidays or weekends for emergency purposes as needed.
· Hazardous Conditions: Must be able to work in environments where hazardous materials, toxic fumes, combustible gases, loud noise, and rotating equipment are present. Exposure to ambient heat and industrial operating conditions is expected.
· Physical Requirements:
o Ability to lift, pull, carry, and handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
o Essential functions require physical fitness for activities such as climbing stairs and ladders (up to 15 feet), sitting, walking on various surfaces (paved and unpaved), and standing for extended periods.
o Visual acuity for reviewing documentation and operating a computer.
· Protective Equipment: Must consistently wear required Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses or goggles, personal gas monitors, hearing protection, face shields, ventilators, and various respiratory protective equipment.
