Computer Learning Center Coordinator Job Description

Days & Times:

Monday-Thursday 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Definition:

To provide support to residents, including youth, in the computer labs within public housing sites. Greet users, assist with sign-in, and track computer usage. Monitor and oversee lab activities during open hours, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. Provide basic technology assistance and support educational development by offering tutoring, assistance and activities, especially for youth participants.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist adult and youth residents in using computer software, digital tools, and online resources. Develop and deliver training sessions or one-on-one support to promote digital literacy and skill-building, with a special focus on youth engagement.
  • Oversee daily activities in the computer learning center to ensure appropriate and safe use of equipment. Enforce posted rules and behavioral standards; issue warnings and suspend lab privileges when necessary to maintain a respectful learning environment.
  • Provide tutoring support to youth in various subjects, including help with homework, educational software, and school projects. Develop and facilitate enrichment activities that promote creativity, critical thinking, and academic development through the use of technology.
  • Greet residents, including youth and adults, upon entering the lab. Answer questions and provide information about lab programs, policies, resources, and upcoming enrichment opportunities.
  • Maintain user agreements, sign-in logs, and activity reports to track participation and usage, ensuring documentation aligns with organizational requirements.
  • Design and implement age-appropriate activities and assignments that support learning goals for both youth and adults, as directed by program leadership.
  • Promptly report any hardware or software malfunctions to the Supervisor to ensure the continued operation and availability of lab resources. Operate standard office equipment including copiers, facsimile machines, and computer hardware and software programs as assigned.

Perform all duties in a safe and conscientious manner following the YCH Injury Illness and Prevention Guidelines, reporting all injuries within 24 hours to your supervisor or member of the management team; reporting any safety concerns to your supervisor, member of the management team, or member of the YCH safety committee.

Abide by the YCH Risk Control Policy Statement assuring the highest level of safety and well-being of residents, tenants, employees, volunteers and visitors, abiding by all applicable laws and regulations which govern the health and safety of all, and employing risk control methods where feasible to prevent and control losses. Report any observed or reported health, safety, and risk concerns to your supervisor, a member of the management team, or member of the YCH risk control committee.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as required and/or assigned.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of:

General office practices. Typing and computer software programs used in labs. Basic computer software including Google, MSWord, Excel and Outlook. Operation of standard office equipment. Basic principles of record keeping and filing systems.

Ability to:

Monitor computer learning center usage and engage in positive, appropriate relationships with adult and youth learning center users. Enforce computer learning center rules and follow developed procedures and protocols. Be an appropriate role model to youth learning center users (appropriate behaviors, appearance, and dress). Communicate with co-workers and business contacts in a professional manner.

Operate a personal computer using various applications and related programs, including standard, as well as proprietary software. Maintain confidentiality. Follow policy and adhere to procedures

Experience and Training Guidelines:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience/ Training:

High school graduate or equivalent with training in typing, computer software programs and office practices equivalent to 6 months of general clerical experience.

Physical Demands:

Essential functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time in an office environment. Have hand strength and the manual dexterity to operate keyboard equipment. Must be able to stretch, bend, and lift up to 10 pounds. Special Requirements:

If driving: Current automobile insurance in accordance with California law and, a valid California drivers license, including a driving record acceptable to the YCH insurance company and insurable by YCH insurance carriers is preferred.

Provide required proof of legal right to work in the United States.
