Immediate Opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract Position)

Key Responsibilities

Working Schedule- 6:00 am-2:30 pm or 7:00 am-3:30 pm

Pay Rate:$35.00hr

Design & Product Support

  • Design and Development: Lead the design, development, update, and ongoing support of current and new products, ensuring alignment with design specifications.
  • Technical Documentation: Create accurate and detailed piece part and assembly prints for internal use (manufacturing, assembly, quality control) and external quotation processes.
  • Bill of Materials (BOM) Management: Establish, edit, and maintain highly accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), Part Numbers, and Routings within the ERP system to ensure production control accuracy.

Manufacturing & Vendor Collaboration

  • Process Improvement: Proactively research and initiate ingenious manufacturing techniques to improve product quality, reduce costs, and enhance overall product designs.
  • Technical Liaison: Provide comprehensive technical support to all manufacturing departments, ensuring seamless production and assembly of parts and finished products.
  • Vendor Management: Communicate directly with vendors to secure quotations and ensure that designs are optimized for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.

Cross-Functional & Backup Support

  • Documentation Control: Assist in the creation, maintenance, proofing, and publishing of technical documents and product manuals.
  • Engineering Change Control: Provide backup support to Manufacturing and Purchasing by performing BOM revisions and updates, strictly adhering to ECR/ECN (Engineering Change Request/Notice) procedures, and managing drawing/specification control.
  • Marketing Support: Offer design-related support to Sales and Marketing, including assistance with graphics projects, marketing materials, and technical training manual content.

Qualifications and Requirements

Required

  • Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering discipline. A combination of relevant experience and education may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in SolidWorks for mechanical design, sheet metal design, basic wood cabinetry drafting, and file management. (Proficiency testing may be required).
  • Design Expertise: Demonstrated experience with sheet metal component and assembly design.
  • Software Skills: Fundamental understanding of PDM (Product Data Management) practices and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Fabrication Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of wood and sheet metal fabrication techniques and tolerances.

Preferred (Highly Beneficial)

  • Experience with Syspro or similar BOM/MRP/ECO Accounting software.
  • Previous experience in cabinet design and/or electrical design, with knowledge of industry standards such as UL, CE, CSE, and NSF.
  • Expertise in wood cabinet design.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish). A Plus!

The Mechanical Design Engineer is directly accountable for ensuring all Bills of Materials, Work Order Routings, and Drawing packages maintain the highest level of accuracy and quality.
