Job Description

The Detox/Medical Assistant will provide care and service recovery focused related to the safe and appropriate administration of medical treatment (including medications) as prescribed by the Health Care Practitioner. The Detox/Medical Assistant will be responsible to provide safe, effective, and efficient implementation of direct care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care.

Responsibilities:

  • Aid in conducting new patient initial assessments and providing orientation to new patients
  • Assess and document patients’ needs and care, collaborating with other BHT staff to manage patient care
  • Provide medical care and assist in the welcoming, admission, and discharge process for residents
  • Transcribe physician orders accurately and in a timely manner
  • Monitor self-administration of medication and treatment to residents
  • Accurately assess degree of detoxification by utilizing methods such as CIWA and COWS to monitor for over sedation or medical emergencies
  • Support program staff with resident de-escalation and crisis management in a manner which fully supports the needs of the resident
  • Respond to emergencies and initiate action as outlined in company policies and procedures
  • Maintain communication with supervisor, Health Care Practitioner, and/or other key staff regarding resident care
  • Perform necessary duties for monitoring the health status of residents per company policies and procedures
  • Ensure resident compliance with facility rules and guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements:

  • Current certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant in the state of California
  • Minimum one year of medical assistant experience in detox substance abuse treatment
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification
  • Current negative TB test
  • Must be at least 18 years old

Competencies:

  • Advanced knowledge of HIPAA
  • Proficient knowledge of chemical dependency and psychological disorders
  • Knowledge of detoxification protocol and related care including symptoms and medications (including CIWA and COWS)
  • Ability to accurately record information and prepare reports
  • Ability to properly manage medications
  • Ability to properly conduct required assessments
  • Ability to navigate the company’s EHR system
  • Skills in ACA intervention strategies
  • Commitment to cultural diversity and sensitivity

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office or other environmentally controlled room. Work may expose incumbent to contagious or infectious diseases, dangerous and volatile situations, or possible bodily injury.

Fulltime- 12 hours shift nights start time is 7pm to 7:30am,Thursday, Friday, Saturday- Alternating Wednesdays
