Minimum Qualifications:

· Experience serving individuals with developmental disabilities is a plus.

· Must be 25 years of age or older with valid California driver license.

· Must be able to accompany and support clients on community outings for up to 3 miles.

· Must be able to lift adaptive equipment and support clients with physical needs up to 50 lbs.

· Must be able to read instructions, write reports and communicate clearly with clients in English.

· Must be able to obtain CPR & First Aid certification.

· Must be able to pass Live Scan Background Check, TB test and pre-employment physical screening.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Supervisor/Program Director, the Direct Support Professional (DSP), Relief provides temporary, flexible substitution for full-time employees on break or out due to illness, injury or excused absences. Like the DSP, the DSP, Relief provides supervision, instruction and care to clients with developmental and/or physical disabilities who are being integrated into the community, or other appropriate natural environments, and/or receiving instruction at our facility. The DSP is responsible for promoting and maintaining the dignity, respect, health and safety of all clients while instructing and supporting them in the pursuit of their individual goals & objectives to achieve self-sufficiency and independence.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Provides individual and group supervision and instruction to clients both in the community and within the program facility.

2. Provides input into the development of Individual Service Plans (ISPs), including selecting or developing resource materials to enable client growth.

3. Provides follow-through on client's ISP goals/objectives to ensure that they are properly implemented, monitored, documented and evaluated to meet program requirements.

4. Assists in developing and implementing non-aversive behavioral management plans to meet the needs of the clients.

5. Assists in personal care needs of the clients including, but not limited to, toileting, dressing, feeding, personal hygiene, lifting and positioning.

6. Ensures client general safety regarding special adaptive equipment, i.e., wheelchairs, trays, other adaptive devices, etc.

7. Advocates for clients’ rights and needs and assists clients with unanticipated or emergency situations that may arise.

8. Maintains a professional demeanor with clients, management, co-workers, members of the community, and representatives of all outside agencies.

9. Monitors and assists clients arriving and departing in program vehicles and with outside transportation departments.

10. Assists with daily set up and cleanup of instructional/training supplies and program facility.

11. Operates large, organization-owned vehicle in a safe manner and in accordance with California State law.

12. Records and submits clients’ daily progress/activity sheets, session notes and monthly progress reports, per established guidelines.

13. Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings, in-service trainings and maintains all required certifications and minimum qualifications for continued employment.

14. Adheres to Code of Safe Work Practices, Rights of Persons with Developmental Disabilities, Guidelines for Conducting Community Based Instruction and all policies provided and procedures, including those in the Employee Handbook.

15. Maintains client confidentiality and follows required reporting procedures with respect to special incidents, suspected abuse and mandated reporting requirements.

16. Maintains safety and cleanliness of the facility and performs housekeeping duties as assigned.

17. Performs other duties as assigned.
