Summary:

The Electronics Technician III position is accountable to the Work Group Lead (WGL) and the Mission Support Services (MSS) Manager for the overall support of in-scope work in WBS 130. This includes supporting, maintaining and development of the Telemetry and Radar Acquisition data Processing Systems (TRAPS), Mission Control Centers (MCC), data distribution and recording systems, Mobile Operations Facilities (MOF), Range Safety Station (RSS) and project owned Ground Control Stations (GCS). This position receives technical guidance from WGL, Field Service Engineer, and other senior technicians. Work is reviewed for compliance with accepted practices and AS9100 Quality Management Standard compliance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Comply with Dryden Aeronautical Test Range (DATR) Configuration Control Board (CCB) processes, including Configuration Change Requests (CCR), System Test Reports (STR) and Discrepancy Reports (DR) to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Operate highly specialized telemetry real-time data processing and post flight processing systems in accordance with established procedures
  • Perform diagnostics, maintenance and repair of instrumentation/data acquisition system components, subsystems and test devices. This includes inspections, operational exercises and adjustments in accordance with specifications, drawings, manuals and established procedures.
  • Independently work with customers and projects to develop, integrate, test, install, operate and maintain complex system of systems while maintaining high standards of workmanship while following NASA and DATR establish practices.
  • Ability use test equipment such as: Spectrum Analyzer, O-Scope, Multimeter, Power Meter and other test equipment.
  • Will independently perform maintenance with little to no direct supervision and will provide inputs to the customer and WGL as required
  • Independently work with customers and projects to develop, integrate, test, install, operate and maintain complex system of systems while maintaining high standards of workmanship while following NASA and DATR establish practices.
  • Conduct pre and post flight checks and troubleshoot instrumentation/data acquisition systems to meet the flight test mission schedule.
  • Technical familiarity with the equipment operated and maintained at the Armstrong Flight Research Center desired. Provide specialized support essential for the successful operations of mission critical facilities.
  • Provides technical direction and performs technical tasks for all activities within WBS130.
  • Coordinates and manages the System Operations and Maintenance Plan (SOMP) for the equipment assigned to the WBS130, including preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Will perform all essential duties and responsibilities above and provide training and technical guidance to junior-level technicians.

Other Related Duties:

Perform other duties as required, including supporting other work centers during surges. This may include cross training into other function areas to meet overall contract performance objectives. Perform housekeeping of the work area and equipment according to specified standards. Operate personnel lifts, Government vehicles and climb antenna towers. Troubleshoot and repair electronic and electromechanical equipment to board or assembly level. Troubleshoot networks, switches and routers. Perform display buildup, compile 'C' real-time source code and utilize command lines tools to interact with systems.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Education:

Must have an associate degree in Electronics Technology or a similar field. In lieu of the associate's degree, High School graduate or High School equivalency and completion of formal training in an accredited commercial or military electronics school.

Experience:

A minimum of eight years of related work experience which shall include range operations in aircraft and/or spacecraft testing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this Position:

Incumbent must have a strong technical background with an emphasis on operations and maintenance of highly specialized telemetry and radar data processing systems. Operation and maintenance of telemetry hardware and cable fabrication and termination with an emphasis on electronic theory. Must have a strong technical background with an emphasis on operations, maintenance and repair of highly specialized telemetry and radar data processing systems.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

In-depth knowledge of: Operations and configuring Telemetry and Radar Data Processing Systems, RF and data test equipment, telemetry antennas and tracking servo systems. Ability to work with research display applications, such as the Interactive Analysis and Display System (IADS). Fiber optics (SM & MM) and copper cable fabrication and termination. Preventive maintenance and troubleshooting procedures for Range systems. Experience with Range systems and test equipment to troubleshoot problems. Display building and programming changes in C, C# and XML. Ability to generate and compile code based on project requirements. PC hardware and software, imaging, operating systems, networking and troubleshooting.

Ability to: Work under the pressure of a real-time mission environment. Configure and operate highly specialized telemetry processing systems with the ability to recognize and correctly resolve problems in time critical situations. Communicate effectively in both oral and written form; apply the principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data and establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Establish and maintain successful working relationships with system users. Comprehend electronic formulas, drawings and schematics, analyze data and resolve problems. Work in a team environment; work under deadlines. Use a computer to input and retrieve information and data. Effectively use word processing and spreadsheet software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio and Outlook. Perform work in an ISO compliant/certified environment. Obtain and maintain a tower climbing certification. Obtain and maintain a Government security clearance. Read, write, speak and understand the English language.

WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

Prolonged sitting while using the computer, constant use of sight abilities, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness. Ability to work extended and flexible hours including weekends. Ability to pass a heavy equipment physical exam required to operate motorized equipment such as forklifts, bucket lifts and platform personnel lifts. Travel as required. Ability to work on aerial platforms and in an outdoor desert environment. Ability to use a computer to input and retrieve information and data.
