Job Description
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and analytical Structural Steel Estimator. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for projects that involve structural/miscellaneous steel components.
This role requires a dual expertise: the ability to precisely quantify structural steel and the knowledge to analyze and price the components of tilt-up panels, including connections, embeds, rebar. This position is critical for winning profitable work and ensuring project success from the earliest stages.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze Bid Documents: Thoroughly review project plans, blueprints, specifications (including Division 5 Metals), and addenda to understand the complete scope of work.
- Material Take-Offs: Perform detailed material take-offs for all structural and miscellaneous steel (beams, columns, joists, deck, stairs, railings, embeds, etc).
- Cost Estimation: Accurately price all materials, fabrication labor, erection/field labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs for steel and tilt-up scopes.
- Solicit Pricing: Prepare and send comprehensive Request for Quotations (RFQs) to suppliers and subcontractors for materials like joists, deck, and rebar, etc.
- Risk Analysis: Identify and evaluate project risks, logistical challenges, and constructability issues, particularly those related to panelization, and steel-to-concrete connections.
- Develop Proposals: Compile all cost data, clarifications, inclusions, and exclusions into a formal, competitive, and professional bid proposal.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, detailers, and operations teams to identify value engineering opportunities and ensure a smooth hand-off from pre-construction to operations.
- Database Management: Maintain and update cost databases for materials, labor, and equipment, tracking market trends for both steel.
