Roche Diagnostics has created a new business - Digital Health Solutions (DHS) - that is charged with building a portfolio of digital health applications. DHS works in partnership with the Roche Pharma Personalized Healthcare organization to transform patients’ lives by delivering care tailored to the individual, thereby helping to prevent, diagnose, and treat patients more effectively and quickly. The PositionWe are looking for a highly motivated architect who has breadth across many software engineering disciplines (ideally full-stack developer, SaaS, PaaS, quality, DevOps, and mobile) and wants to make an impact on patient lives. The applications delivered by DHS cover clinical and commercial domains and have, in fact, the potential to reach a user base of > 1M users.

This role requires a proven track record in digital health product delivery and support.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Leading the software design of new SaMD (Software as a Medical Device) solutions to be embedded in our hybrid platform, which forms the backbone of remote patient monitoring and digital therapeutic solutions for clinical studies and disease-area-specific applications - collecting terabytes of sensor/tracking data

  • Bridging the communication between product managers and software engineers

  • Prototyping solutions to validate ideas, design assumptions and other aspects of a product

  • Driving the integration of newly developed SaMD applications into the Roche enterprise data management architecture

  • Architecting communication interfaces to support a portfolio of patient-facing mobile applications or IoT devices and providing input to the end-to-end road map, in collaboration with the product management team

  • Defining, along with the other functions in DHS, the development road map enabling the group to design, develop, deploy, and support a portfolio of SaMD solutions for global distribution to clinical studies and commercial products

  • Continuously strive to minimize the time to develop and release SaMD applications by designing and implementing an efficient and future-proof architecture supporting safety and security guidelines

Your Qualifications:

  • B.Sc./M.Sc. in information technology, business informatics or a related field

  • 8+ years of industry experience: Thorough familiarity with the digital health domain and proven track record of delivering end to end digital health applications (ideally) in a validated environment, focusing on scalability, security, and compliance

  • Very good (ideally certified) knowledge of the AWS ecosystem

  • Excellent communication, presentation, social, and analytical skills; the ability to communicate complex interaction concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization

  • In-depth experience in producing formal and informal architecture documentation and deep knowledge of UML

  • Strong ability to understand data relationships and can design data models that reflects these relationships and facilitates efficient ingestion, processing, and consumption of data

  • Prior hands-on experience with various data integration, application integration, business process, and data science tools (e.g. Kafka, Cassandra, Spark, etc)

  • Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres and Cassandra

  • Experience working in global, virtual, large, high-performance teams and matrix environments

  • Previous experience in the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry or for a top software consultancy

  • Proven track record of architect an end to end digital health applications

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to both translate functional requirements into technical specifications and influence non-technical stakeholders

  • Excellent data modeling skills

  • Ability to travel internationally (10% - 20%)

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with the design, implementation, and support of systems under medical device CSV

  • Reactive programming and ideally hands-on experience with the Eclipse Vert.x application framework

  • Prior hands-on experience with various data integration, application integration, business process, and data science tools (e.g. Kafka, Cassandra, Spark, etc)

  • GraphQL query language

  • Proven track record of solutions delivered using the AWS ecosystem

  • Project management experience
