Job Description:The Mechanical Engineer will design, analyze, and coordinate HVAC and mechanical systems across a variety of building types. This role offers hands-on technical work, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the opportunity to grow within a high-performing MEP consulting team.
Responsibilities:
- Design HVAC and mechanical systems, including load calculations and equipment sizing for commercial, multifamily, retail, life science, and industrial projects
- Prepare drawings, schematics, and specifications using AutoCAD and Revit
- Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, electrical, and plumbing disciplines
- Apply energy-efficient and sustainable design strategies aligned with Title 24 and CALGreen
- Perform thermal comfort analysis and energy modeling to optimize system performance
- Evaluate and integrate systems such as VRF, DOAS, and other high-efficiency technologies
- Prepare construction documents, technical reports, equipment schedules, and system narratives
- Review RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings for compliance with design intent
- Participate in design coordination meetings, site visits, and QA/QC reviews
- Support project scheduling, cost estimating, and resource planning for assigned scopes
- Serve as a technical resource for clients and internal teams
- Stay current with evolving codes, standards, and sustainable design practices
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- 4–8 years of mechanical design experience in building systems; MEP consulting experience strongly preferred
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM coordination tools
- Strong knowledge of California Mechanical Code, California Building Code, ASHRAE, NFPA, and Title 24
- Solid understanding of HVAC systems, air distribution, hydronic systems, and energy-efficient design
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- California PE license preferred or ability to obtain licensure
- LEED accreditation or familiarity with green building programs is a plus
