We are a small firm and need another attorney to help us with a backlog of work. We frequently have more work than we can handle and turn away prospective new clients. We are happy to have someone help with any aspect of the work, whether it’s research, writing, court appearances, and/or other aspects of the legal work we handle. However, the attorney needs to be able to do enough to be helpful and produce thorough work. We want someone willing to question sources and analyze situations; we do not want someone who will rely solely on AI or search engine results.
We do not require a certain amount of experience, but the compensation will be based on someone’s experience, credentials, and perceived likely capabilities. Although we cannot pay big firm amounts, we want to compensate employees that are helpful well with raises and bonuses and try hard to do that. New employees get 90 day reviews, reviews annually after that, and can also receive raises and/or bonuses during the year.
We give feedback and help people learn when appropriate, but also need someone who can be self-reliant and be proactive to achieve good work product on their own. Our feedback can be detailed, but also is not given right away since we are busy. We do not have case lists at the moment but work on cases collaboratively. We also do not have a billable hour requirement, but would implement one if we feel it is appropriate.
Wolk & Levine overall handles a lot of communication by email, but also some in chat and in person. We are happy to make some accommodations for people who have different work styles or prefer certain kinds of communication.
Although we need someone generally working during general business hours, we are happy to be flexible with schedules for employees that are reliable and helpful. Hybrid work is how ¾ people in the firm work. This new attorney would have a physical office to work in. We offer health, dental, and vision insurance. We administer CalSavers for retirement planning.
