Job Summary
The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to women during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period. This role requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to manage high-risk obstetric situations, and collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe maternal and neonatal outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, and recovery
Monitor maternal and fetal status, recognizing and responding to complications promptly
Assist with vaginal and operative deliveries as needed
Administer medications and IV therapies per provider orders and protocols
Support high-risk obstetric patients, including those with medical or pregnancy-related complications
Perform accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, and outcomes
Educate patients and families regarding labor processes, pain management options, and postpartum care
Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiology, and neonatal teams
Maintain compliance with patient safety standards, infection control practices, and regulatory requirements
Required Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited nursing program
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state where care is provided
Minimum 1 year of recent (within the last 3 years) full-time equivalent nursing experience
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
AWHONN certification
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field
Five (5) or more years of recent Labor & Delivery experience
One (1) year of recent high-risk Labor & Delivery experience
High-risk OB experience strongly preferred
