Job Title: Production Lead

Location: Irwindale / Duarte

Reports to: Production Supervisor

Hours: Non-exempt

Position Overview:

The purpose of the position is to guide the production team towards efficiency and daily goals.

May be assigned to different areas of production. Will be responsible for PMOs and all other production employees. Will also be responsible for troubleshooting problems regarding the Company’s production systems as well as the analysis and problem-solving of those problems. The position requires basic counting and packaging, and the ability to work independently and with other team members in a fast-paced environment. Work schedule Monday through Friday with potential weekend work based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Within the Production Lead position there will be different responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Review order instructions to familiarize themselves with the upcoming orders before being set up on the floor.
  • Manage the hours of Production personnel, including ensuring Production personnel are attending their workstations when their shifts begin and enforcing meal and break times and all other policies concerning Production personnel as outlined in the Company’s Employee Handbook.
  • Ensure all scheduled machines are running properly, efficiently, and safely including ensuring all Production personnel are wearing the proper PPE.
  • Communicate with account managers, quality, shipping/receiving, maintenance, or management to resolve issues with orders, packaging instructions, component shortages, setup specifications, quality parameters, inventory, machinery/equipment or errors in initial processing, or any issues associated to the order.
  • Coordinate with employees to ensure components are ordered in a timely manner to avoid downtime during and in between order changeovers. Order components when personnel are not available.
  • Investigate physical inventory, Quarantine/Hold inventory, scrap and production paperwork to resolve issues with missing components, high scrap, job being ran short or other discrepancies with inventory/work orders.
  • Communicate with line leads, lead support and aisle support on any important details pertaining to the current work order being packaged to minimize errors, prevent excess scrap, and/or reduce unnecessary downtime.
  • Identify employees who are not meeting packaging speed expectations and train employees on best practices or methods for the specific task they are performing or place the employee with a mentor who is meeting the packaging speed expectations. Have the mentor show the trainee the best practices/methods used for the specific job at hand.
  • Request for technicians to adjust and/or repair equipment that cannot be repaired or adjusted by line leads or supervisors as needed.
  • Coordinate the moving of crews as needed for lot changes, machine breakdowns, order changes, or order priority changes.
  • Seek ways to improve the flow of the line that will increase productivity, reduce downtime and/or reduce excess scrap.
  • Review the master schedule and the roadmap to forecast and prepare for the current and following day’s work.
  • Verify Cycles Per Minute (CPM) per line and per individual to ensure production is meeting expectations for both individuals and lines.
    • Responsible for the safety of their crew, employee safety coaching/training, and prompt incident reporting
    • Complete all required training (e.g., sexual harassment, workplace violence, active shooter)
    • Adhere and enforce all GMP and Product Safety requirements.
    • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance.
    • Identify and corrects hazards; comply with all safety policies and best practices.
    • All other duties are based on business needs.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, reaching and grasping with both hands.
  • Maintain company attendance standards.
  • Flexible work schedule (e.g., weekends and holidays)

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
