JOB DESCRIPTION

DIRECT SERVICE PROFESSIONAL & DRIVER

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Program Director, this position is a direct service position providing vocational and/or skills training to persons with developmental disabilities. This position has no supervisory duties.

DSP Responsibilities include:

Assist in the creation and implementation of ISP’s

Record data and maintain field books

Assist clients with personal and hygiene issues when needed

Provide constant supervision to clients

Accept changes in assigned clients or program sites as directed

Other duties assigned by the Program Director

Driver Responsibilities include:

Follow Strides vehicle rules while operating said vehicle(s)

Maintain the cleanliness of vehicle(s)

Daily maintenance checks

Informing management of any necessary maintenance requirements

Recording the pickup/drop-off times of participants

Maintain the health and safety of participants while operating Strides vehicle(s)

Follow all California traffic laws and regulations while operating Strides vehicle(s)

MINIMUM EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Experience working with persons with disabilities. CPR and first aid training are completed within 30 days of hire and maintained. Proof of submission of fingerprints to DOJ and FBI with subsequent clearance, certification of no history of criminal conviction as outlined in DSS licensing Criminal Record Statement (LIC 508). Staff who work directly with clients must be at least 18 years of age, and those required to drive should be 21. Must maintain a California driver's license and a good driving record. Physicals and TB clearances are required for all licensed facilities. Must be physically capable of manipulating wheelchairs and positioning/lifting non-ambulatory clients.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED

High School diploma. Familiarity with developmental disabilities; an understanding of the philosophy of community-based and work programs; awareness of principles of normalization and development; ability to work with independence and as a member of an individual-centered planning team; effective writing skills and ability to chart data, to track client progress and generate reports in an accurate and timely manner; ability to deal effectively with staff, clients and outside community. Driving staff preferred to be 21 or older.

Normal working hours for this position are 8hrs/day, 5 days/week. Occasional overtime for training is required. Specific work hours may vary from site to site but are normally 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Persons applying for positions requiring regular overtime hours are informed at time of interview.
