Job Description\n
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level III NICU night shift position in California, requiring prior Cerner experience and strong IV skills.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
- Work in a Level III NICU within an acute care hospital
- 30-bed NICU with an average census of 22
- Patient population includes preterm infants from 22 weeks gestation to term, including high volume sepsis, respiratory cases, drug withdrawal, and syphilis
- Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3 in NICU and 1:4 in Peds
- Night shift position with 12-hour shifts, including every other weekend and possible additional weekends
- Required to float to Pediatrics and Postpartum units, including couplet care assignments
- No block scheduling allowed
- Cerner utilized for EMR, with HUGS security system and Breast Milk Bridge
- Uses Phillips monitors; nurses responsible for arrhythmia interpretation
- Specialized equipment includes high frequency ventilators, Draeger, Nitric Oxide, Nava Ventilation, and Medifusion/Alaris IV pumps
- No ECMO; delivery nurse and RT present for high risk deliveries
- Charge nurse on every shift; no nurse aides assigned
- Staff are expected to manage a high volume and acuity of critically ill neonates in a busy unit
- Nights and every other weekend are required; must be flexible to possibly work additional weekends
- Required to complete all onboarding modules prior to arrival
- Must pass dysrhythmia and sterile technique tests as part of initial orientation
- Floor-specific orientation consists of 2 assigned shifts
- Two of three major holidays must be worked
- Navy blue scrubs are required
- No call responsibilities for travelers
- Must be comfortable working with surrogate parents and handling high risk situations
- Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7
- Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments

- Active CA RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years recent NICU nursing experience
- Current BLS (AHA), NRP, and PALS certifications required
- Cerner EMR experience is required
- Strong IV skills necessary
- Must provide 2 professional references: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months, and one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years
- Submission must include a copy of driver’s license
- Must not have been employed by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities within the past year
