We are looking for an experienced Legal Secretary to join our team on a Contract basis in Santa Clara, California. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in bankruptcy law, particularly Chapter 7 and 11 cases, and be comfortable managing legal filings, client interactions, and case documentation. This position is 100% on-site and requires someone who is detail oriented and adept at handling sensitive client situations with care and efficiency.


Responsibilities:

• Prepare and file bankruptcy petitions, with a focus on Chapter 7 and 11 cases, using BestCase and Jubilee software.

• Manage federal court filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with deadlines and legal standards.

• Organize and maintain client case files, utilizing case management tools such as Clio and Dropbox.

• Communicate with clients, including those in emotionally charged situations, to provide updates and address concerns.

• Draft and review legal documents, such as petitions and other court-related paperwork.

• Coordinate schedules and deadlines through effective calendar management.

• Collaborate with attorneys and other staff to ensure smooth case progression and resolution.

• Utilize Excel for tracking case data and managing related documentation.

• Handle filings with the appropriate courts and agencies, including electronic submissions.

• Provide administrative support to ensure the office operates efficiently and meets client expectations.

• At least 5 years of experience as a Legal Secretary, with a focus on bankruptcy law.
• Proficiency in using case management software, such as BestCase, Jubilee, and Clio.
• Strong knowledge of federal court filing procedures; familiarity with state filings is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to draft, edit, and review legal documents with precision.
• Advanced skills in calendar management to coordinate deadlines and schedules.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking and organizing case-related data.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients, attorneys, and court personnel.
• Ability to maintain professionalism and composure when dealing with upset or distressed clients.
