SUMMARY:
This position provides staff development expertise across The Children's Clinic through the development of the Health staff (including Medical Assistants, Licensed Vocational Nurses, and students) and fosters their empowerment through knowledge. This position also addresses the educational process through assessment, development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of competency assessment, continuing education and leadership development.

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:

Works closely and in coordination with Nurse Educator and supervised by Nurse Manager to carryout job functions and descriptions below:

  • Leads, plans, assesses, organizes, develops and implements employee training programs designed to orient employees, improve job skills, and develop potential capabilities to meet The Children's Clinic strategic plans and training needs.
  • Oversees and coordinates clinic orientation of new nursing employees (regular, temporary, externs and students) to the clinic, signing off on performance of taking vital signs, giving three injections, etc., and annual competencies.
  • Ensures appropriate orientation, training and monitoring of nursing staff, to keep them aware of changes in protocols and practices.
  • Develops/coordinates education plans related to initial and ongoing competency validation while ensuring that educational programs are congruent with organizational missions, values, and goals.
  • Monitors employee development through instructor led, webinars, and/or simulation training programs, ensuring personal and organizational workforce skills upgrade targets are achieved.
  • Coordinates onboarding and delivers competence based programs for new and existing health staff with a focus on improving skills and knowledge retention.
  • Develops evidence-based educational materials and adjusts content and teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs.
  • Support staff development with educational activities (which includes remediation, certification, mentoring, state mandated compliance requirements, product roll outs, etc.)
  • Conducts needs assessments for clinical staff in a variety of clinical areas.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of educational programs using a variety of assessments tools.
  • Evaluates employee performance and provides feedback to supervisors and managers for improvement.
  • Mentors staff by assisting in assessing patients, working with physicians and other staff to improve the quality of nursing care.
  • Serves as an educational consultant to facilities, task forces, committees, and projects related to policy, procedure and program.
  • Responds to changes in nursing practice and develops programs to support these changes.
  • Liaisons with academic and other training programs.
  • Evaluates minimum competency of MAs in the following areas annually at Main and in collaboration with Clinic Managers (or designee) at all sites:
  • Initiates and coordinates in-service programs during All Staff monthly meetings to assure that all nursing personnel at all sites are conversant with programs, systems and tools necessary to perform job duties.
  • Leads committees and projects related to the implementation of educational activities.
  • Incorporates current educational evidence into individual practice as a staff development expert.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • May help oversee MA Float/Per Diem team
  • Serves as the backup Employee Health Nurse when needed
  • May help in interviewing Nursing support staff of MAs and LVNs May attend Nursing operation related meetings/trainings/webinars
  • Serves as an administrative back up to Nurse Manager and/or Nurse Educator

Qualifications:

  • Current valid California LVN license required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience working in a pediatric and adult care setting coupled with a minimum of 3 years' experience as a Clinical trainer preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years Clinical supervisorial experience required
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish preferred.
  • Proficient computer Skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Solid clinical background and excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Detail-oriented, organized and good follow through skills.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles.
