Job Description

Experienced Auto body paint prepper to prepare vehicle surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, masking, and priming them to ensure a smooth, blemish-free finish. Key responsibilities include removing dirt, rust, and paint, applying protective masking tape and paper, and assisting with primer application and paint mixing. This role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of prep tools and materials, and the ability to maintain a clean and organized workspace while adhering to safety protocols.
(minimum of 1 year experience or certified training)

Key Responsibilities

  • Surface Preparation: Clean, sand, and grind surfaces to remove dirt, grease, rust, and old paint to achieve a smooth finish.

  • Masking: Apply masking tape and paper to protect areas of the vehicle that will not be painted, such as windows, trim, and bumpers.

  • Priming: Apply primers and assist with paint and primer mixing as needed, ensuring they meet manufacturer specifications.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Disassemble, clean, and maintain sprayers, power tools, and other painting equipment.

  • Workspace & Material Management: Maintain a clean and organized work area, including the prep station, paint booth, and paint storage areas.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with paint technicians and other team members to ensure a smooth workflow and efficient vehicle completion.

  • Safety Compliance: Wear and use all required safety equipment, such as respirators and eye protection, and follow proper procedures for handling hazardous waste.

  • Reassembly: Assist with disassembling and reassembling vehicle parts and reattaching moldings and trim pieces after painting.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Attention to Detail: Essential for identifying and fixing surface imperfections to ensure a flawless final paint job.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with sanding techniques, various tools (sanders, grinders), and knowledge of automotive paints and primers.

  • Teamwork & Communication: Ability to collaborate effectively with other technicians and communicate to meet shared goals and deadlines.

  • Physical Stamina: Must be able to stand for long periods, perform repetitive tasks, and lift heavy objects.

  • Adaptability: Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and follow detailed instructions.

  • Safety Consciousness: Understanding of safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Experience: Previous experience as a paint prepper or in a similar auto body role is often required
