Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, active DHH teaching certification, and 1+ years Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

We are seeking a Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Specialist to join our team in Oakland, CA. This role will provide essential services to students with hearing impairments in a K-12 caseload, ensuring they have the necessary support to succeed academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and support students with hearing impairments in developing their communication skills, including language development, social skills, and academic success.

  • Provide individualized instruction and accommodations based on the needs of students who are Deaf or hard of hearing.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other support staff to ensure that students receive appropriate accommodations and modifications.

  • Implement specialized teaching strategies to enhance students' literacy, language acquisition, and comprehension.

  • Support students in participating in classroom activities, social interactions, and extracurricular programs.

  • Maintain clear documentation and communicate regularly with parents, educators, and support teams regarding student progress.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field.

  • Certification as a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist (or equivalent qualifications).

  • Experience working with K-12 students who are Deaf or hard of hearing, preferably in an educational setting.

  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication systems used by students with hearing impairments.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
