Job description

Mountain F. Enterprises, Inc. is seeking a Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) to lead high-voltage electrical hazard training using a mobile demonstration trailer. This position plays a critical role in improving safety awareness and best practices among utility arborists working near energized lines. The ideal candidate is an experienced, safety-driven utility professional—ideally a journeyman lineman—who enjoys teaching and mentoring others.

This position is based out of the Placerville/Auburn/Grass Valley area and requires regular travel across California to conduct on-site training sessions.

Job Title: Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) – Utility Arborist Safety Trainer (Part-Time)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate, transport, and set up a 7.2kV-capable high-voltage electrical hazard demonstration trailer.
  • Deliver engaging, hands-on training to utility arborists, vegetation management crews, and tree workers.
  • Supervise energized demonstrations simulating arc flash, step and touch potential, conductor contact, backfeed, and other key hazards.
  • Ensure all demonstrations are conducted in accordance with Cal/OSHA Title 8, Section 2700 and NFPA 70E safety standards.
  • Train and mentor internal instructors (Qualified Line Clearance Tree Trimmer Trainers), providing field evaluations and sign-offs.
  • Perform routine safety inspections, pre-use checklists, grounding tests, and equipment maintenance related to the trailer.
  • Uphold a strong safety culture and serve as the on-site expert during training sessions.

Qualifications:

  • Must meet the definition of a Qualified Electrical Worker under Cal/OSHA Title 8 §2700 (minimum 2 years’ experience with high-voltage circuits and demonstrated competency).
  • Completion of IBEW Journey-Level Lineworker Apprenticeship or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of field experience in electric utility distribution, line work, substation work, or equivalent.
  • Prior experience training or mentoring field workers preferred.
  • Knowledge of utility vegetation management safety concerns and tree worker proximity risks is highly desirable.
  • Valid California driver’s license required; experience towing trailers preferred.
  • Comfortable speaking to groups and adapting teaching style to different audiences.

Work Schedule & Travel:

  • Full-time during initial onboarding and training phase (first ~4–6 weeks).
  • Transition to part-time (2–3 days/week), with flexible scheduling based on training calendar.
  • Regular travel required throughout California. Overnight travel may be needed (mileage and lodging reimbursed).
