Systems Administrator (Contract-to-Hire) — Onsite | Pleasanton, CA

About the role
LHH has partnered with our client to hire a hands-on Systems Administrator who will keep core infrastructure healthy and users productive. You’ll manage Windows Server/O365, VMware, networking, storage/backup, and serve as an escalation point for the help desk. The environment values open communication, peer feedback, and practical automation that improves daily workflows.

What you’ll do

  • Own core infra: Administer Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, Exchange, Group Policy, and Microsoft 365 tenant services.

  • Virtualization: Maintain and patch VMware ESXi/vSphere (Horizon/VDI and NSX/virtual firewall experience a plus).

  • Networking: Support/maintain Cisco switches and firewalls (Palo Alto and/or Cisco), cabling, and site connectivity.

  • Storage & backup: Operate enterprise SAN, perform regular backups/restores, and document recovery procedures.

  • Endpoint & escalations: Install, move, and troubleshoot hardware; handle Tier 2/3 escalations and partner with the help desk.

  • Security & logging: Contribute to security policy maintenance; support projects such as centralized SIEM logging.

  • Ops hygiene: Maintain inventory, produce quotes/recommendations, coordinate with vendors, and keep documentation current.

  • Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to automate and streamline processes.

What you’ll bring

  • 3 years minimum of systems administration (Windows Server and/or virtualization emphasis).

  • Strong hands-on experience with O365, AD, DNS/DHCP, Exchange, Group Policy.

  • Azure Administrator experience (tenant/admin exposure).

  • VMware ESXi/vSphere (Horizon/VDI, NSX preferred).

  • Networking experience with Cisco switches and Palo Alto and/or Cisco firewalls.

  • Enterprise storage/SAN and backup/restore experience.

  • Ability to work onsite, move hardware (data center/network closets/desks), and communicate clearly with end users.

  • Nice to have: B.A./A.S. in CS/IS (or equivalent experience), Linux/UNIX, and certs (VMware/Microsoft/Palo Alto/Cisco, ITIL/HDI, CompTIA A+/Net+/Sec+).

Compensation & terms

  • Contract-to-Hire (W2). Target hourly up to $45.67/hr DOE during contract; anticipated conversion salary $75,000–$95,000 DOE.

  • Standard business hours; business casual; 40 hours/week.

Pay Details: $35.00 to $45.67 per hour
