Job Summary:


The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and documenting mechanical systems and components used in ruggedized enclosures and rack systems for aerospace and defense applications. This role requires advanced proficiency in CAD and FEA tools, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and strict adherence to industry standards (AS9100, DoD, NASA, MIL-STD). The position contributes directly to product reliability, manufacturability, and compliance while supporting continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes.


Key Responsibilities:


· Design mechanical systems and components for ruggedized enclosures and rack systems, ensuring compliance with program specifications and industry standards.

· Perform engineering analyses, including stress, thermal, vibration, and fatigue analysis using FEA tools, and document results in formal engineering reports.

· Develop and maintain CAD models, detailed engineering drawings, and bills of material (BOMs) in accordance with ASME Y14.5 (GD&T).

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems, electrical, and manufacturing engineers to ensure design compatibility and top performance.

· Participate in design reviews, root cause analyses, and failure investigations, and root cause analyses; track and close corrective actions to completion.

· Support prototyping, integration, and assembly of new designed hardware by providing build instructions, tooling specifications, and hands-on technical guidance.

· Ensure compliance with AS9100, ITAR, DoD and customer/regulatory requirements throughout the design lifecycle.

· Contribute to process improvements by documenting best practices, developing checklists, and recommending new tools or methods.


Required Qualifications:


· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).

· Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mechanical design and engineering, preferably within aerospace/defense.

· Demonstrated proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent) with a track record of producing accurate drawings and models.

· Hands-on experience performing FEA and thermal analysis, with ability to interpret and act on results.

· Familiarity with equipment materials, manufacturing techniques, and environmental considerations.

· Strong working knowledge of aerospace materials and manufacturing processes, with expertise in GD&T, tolerance analysis, and configuration management.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting technical findings to cross-functional teams.

· Proven ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a regulated, fast-paced environment.


Preferred Qualifications:


· Experience working on aircraft systems or defense-related programs.

· Knowledge of aerospace standards (e.g., MIL-STD, FAA specifications).

· Hands-on experience with prototyping, machining, and assembly in an R&D or production environment.

· Current or active U.S. Government Security Clearance, or ability to obtain one.


Physical Requirements:


· Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods and frequently perform tasks that require repetitive motion, such as typing on a keyboard.

· Regular use of a computer, telephone, and headset is required, including participation in virtual meetings via Microsoft Teams.

· This is primarily an office-based role located within a shared open-concept office inside a warehouse facility. The work environment may include elevated noise levels due to open workspaces and conversational noise. Employees should be comfortable working in a setting where sound carries and interruptions may occur.

· Position may require occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds when assisting with prototypes or hardware.
