Direct Support Professional (DSP) Qualifications

1. CPR/1st Aid/AED.

2. Able to pass DOJ fingerprint background check with no criminal record.

3. Able to pass Health Screening 12 months prior to or 7 days after employment with negative TB.

4. 18+ years old with high school diploma or higher

5. Complete minimum 12hrs CEU yearly per T17.

6. 1 year experience providing direct supervision and special service to persons with Developmental Disabilities (T17) or complete 12 hrs of additional CEU within 6 months of hire.

7. Possess and maintain valid CA driver license with clean driving record – Drivers.

8. Managing Assaultive Behavior and/or Pro-ACT Principle + Restraint certification a plus.

9. Pass DSP 1 within 1 year and DSP 2 within 2 years of employment.

10. Written and spoken English fluency, good character and a continuing reputation of personal integrity.

11. T17 and 22 proficiency a plus.

Direct Support Professional (DSP) Duties

1. Assist the consumers with their self-help skills, i.e., Activities of Daily Living but not limited to personal hygiene, grooming/dressing, eating, toileting (continence), bathing, teaching life skills, maintaining sanitary and safe environment for consumers.

2. Participate in implementing behavior and non-behavior management plans and objectives (RHCCP, IPP, ISP, EIP-Emergency Intervention Plan etc.).

3. Supervise, monitor consumer’s health, safety, wellness and report any changes to the Administrator or contact 911 in case of danger to life and/or property.

4. Report any suspicion of abuse, neglect, crime, serious injury, death, missing persons, hospitalizations and other reportable incidents as mandated reporters to appropriate agencies.

5. Adhere to DSP ethics and facility policies (person centered support; integrity and responsibility; confidentiality; respect; advocacy; self-determination; justice, fairness and equity; relationships; promoting physical and emotional well-being.

6. Attend meetings, be punctual to work, attend all Administrator, VMRC and/or consultant trainings.

7. Submit special incident reports to all applicable agencies within reporting deadlines (verbal and written).

8. Communicate with work/day program on issues relating to health, safety, wellness and/or progress of consumer.

9. Transport consumers to and from medical appointments, community outings, and other appointments.

10. Assist in the implementation of consumer activities.

11. Maintain but not limited to consumer notes, data collection, head count, medication administration record, centrally stored medication, medication destruction, medication transfer/Release of Responsibility Log, sign in/out log, P&I ledger with consumer receipts up to date.

12. Assist with medication administration per doctor’s order-DSP certified staff and provide first aid as needed.

13. Prepare and serve consumer meals according to menu and/or consumer choice.

14. Maintain all medications and chemicals under lock and key in separate storage.

15. Assist consumer in person centered planning, healthy choices, recreational programs and participation in community outings.

16. Maintain home and transport vehicle in sanitary condition and report all concerns to the Administrator.

17. Perform other work assigned by Administrator.
