About the Role
We're looking for a seasoned backend engineer with strong Python expertise to join our fast-growing team. You'll play a key role in designing and implementing large-scale zero-trust solutions that give organizations secure, seamless access to their cloud and on-prem environments. This is a high-impact position where you'll influence architecture decisions, ship core features, and help shape the direction of a product used by companies around the world.
What Will You Do
-
Architect, build, and maintain robust backend systems using Python and Django.
-
Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver features from concept to production.
-
Write high-quality, maintainable, and scalable code that aligns with industry best practices.
-
Lead code reviews, debug complex issues, and ensure the overall reliability and performance of the platform.
-
Mentor junior engineers and lead larger initiatives as the team scales.
-
Stay on top of emerging technologies and bring fresh thinking to the engineering culture.
-
Work directly with customers and stakeholders to shape product decisions and drive value.
Job Qualifications
Experience & Background
-
5+ years of hands-on backend development experience, including scaling complex systems in fast-growing B2B environments.
-
Proven track record leading projects end-to-end and mentoring less experienced engineers.
-
Extended exposure to security-focused products or environments is a plus.
-
Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field (or equivalent practical experience).
Technical Skills
-
Deep expertise in Python and Django — this is essential.
-
Experience with modern infrastructure tools such as GraphQL, GCP, Kubernetes, and Terraform is strongly preferred.
-
Strong foundational understanding of software architecture, scalability, and reliability.
Soft Skills
-
High energy and ownership mindset — you move quickly and take initiative to solve problems.
-
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams and with external stakeholders.
-
Comfort working in a distributed, remote-first environment.
Nice to Avoid
-
Primarily front-end or "full-stack" engineers without significant backend experience.

Data engineers who haven't built and maintained production web applications.
Benefits
-
100% remote work within the U.S., with a slight preference for West Coast candidates who can occasionally meet in Palo Alto.

Medical (PPO, HMO, HDHP), dental, and vision coverage — fully paid for employees.
-
Life, AD&D, and disability insurance.
-
Flexible Spending Accounts (Healthcare, Dependent Care, Commuter) and Health Savings Account.
-
Flexible Paid Time Off, ~11 paid holidays, 10 sick days, and generous parental leave (6 weeks parental, 14–16 weeks maternity).
-
Retirement options including Traditional and Roth 401(k).
-
Opportunity to join a well-funded Series B startup ($67M total raised) with IPO potential and a culture built on customer focus, continuous improvement, and high agency.
