Job Description
DIRECTV is seeking a Principal, IT Software Engineer 2 with a solid foundation in backend development and microservices/distributed systems for enterprise-scale applications. The engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing the technical vision for a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) application. This role requires a blend of hands-on coding, deep understanding of business requirements, and leadership to create a scalable, secure, and resilient multi-tenant application. A SaaS architect's work is crucial for turning business requirements into a functional, cloud-based product with a clear understanding of what can be utilized as out-of-the-box functionality versus customization. The SaaS architect’s role is also responsible for designing robust monitoring and performance tools to ensure critical business functionalities are operating optimally and issues are detected immediately.
Here's what you'll do:
- Design. Create/Review application designs for a multi-tenant cloud-based platform, including the design for new features, databases, APIs, and overall system architecture.
- Performance, Monitoring, and Security. Define the architectural principles that enable the SaaS application to handle increased user loads and data without performance degradation. Build robust monitoring to detect issues and real time. Embed security and compliance (e.g., GDPR, SOC 2) directly into the application’s design.
- Technical Standards. Establish the overall architectural standards, frameworks, and best practices for the development team to follow. This includes choosing technology stacks, designing microservices, and setting up CI/CD pipelines.
- Stakeholder Collaboration. Translate business requirements from product managers, sales, and executive leadership into technical solutions and designs.
- Leadership and Mentorship. Guide and mentor development, business analyst, and QA teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Integrations and Data Strategy. Design and oversee the integration of the SaaS application with other internal or third-party systems using standard API protocols (e.g., REST, GraphQL). Define and enforce governance models for data management.
- Research and Validation. Research new technologies, build proof-of-concept prototypes, and perform feasibility analysis to inform the design of future projects.
- Continuous Improvement. Monitor and analyze the platform's performance in production to identify optimization opportunities and validate that architectural standards are being met.
Here's what you'll need to be successful:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience preferred.
- 5 – 7 years of software delivery experience in a 24/7 environment.
- Experience working with SaaS systems preferred.
- Background developing various AWS software solutions services.
- Previous working knowledge with Kubernetes, preferably AWS EKS, and custom-developed applications (e.g., Java).
- Experience with incident management processes.
- Excellent understanding of building API platforms.
- Outstanding communications skills, written and verbal.
- A bias for action and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Independent problem solver with a customer- and client-focused approach.
May require a background check due to job duties requiring routine access to DIRECTV and DIRECTV customer’s proprietary data. Qualified applicants with arrest and conviction will be considered for employment in accordance with local ordinances and state law.
This is a remote position that can be located anywhere in the United States. #LI-Remote
