BUILDINGS & GROUNDS ASSISTANT
Position Description: The
Buildings and Grounds Assistant is an integral member of the Facilities Team whose main responsibility is to provide support to the Groundskeeper and Director of Facilities in the upkeep and maintenance of our buildings and grounds, ensuring they are inviting, well-groomed, and safe. This position also serves as the fleet maintenance/shuttle driver for the school.

Compensation: $26/hour, non-exempt, benefits eligible
Specific responsibilities:
- Assist in building, monitoring, and maintaining our building management and maintenance systems, procedures, and records using our computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Assist in the repair, maintenance and service of mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems.
- Perform general building maintenance and repairs including painting. This may also include general I.T. / Tech support as trained or assigned.
- Ensure vehicle fleet is maintained, which includes cleaning and routine checks of tire pressure, fluid levels and other aspects of vehicle upkeep.
- Safe and timely transportation of students to and from school/field trips/athletic events as needed.
- Perform tasks such as mowing grass, weeding, pruning, fertilizing, transplanting trees/flowers, maintaining flower beds, and maintaining & repairing all irrigation and drip irrigation systems campus wide, which includes the Organic Garden and Head House.
- Ensure that seasonal plant duties are performed in the correct manner and at the correct time.
- Sweep/blow entrances, walks, parking lots, and basketball courts.
- Keep grounds and flowerbeds clear of rubbish and monitor the propertys grounds to ensure safety and a pleasant appearance.
- Lawn and field maintenance, including rodent abatement.
- Perform general laboring tasks related to grounds maintenance.
- Assist in keeping inventory of maintenance supplies.
- Be available on campus or on call for special projects and campus events (ie. Fall Festival, Back to School Night, etc.).
General responsibilities:
- Keep campus secure, ensuring exterior doors and gates are locked.
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment.
- Record water usage from pumps and wells.
- Apply weed killers and/or pesticides as needed in accordance with manufacturer uses which includes proper use of personal protective equipment (gloves, safety glasses, etc.); ensure that all such items are locked up when not in use.
- Inspect various equipment - particularly playground equipment.
- Maintain hoses and tools in proper condition and repair.
- Help maintain clean dumpster and recycle areas.
- Maintain athletic fields, track, and tennis courts for practices and interscholastic and intramural competition, including assisting with measuring and marking lines when needed.
- Assist in setting-up/breaking-down for special events.
- Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to supervisor.
- Participate in training for equipment maintenance/service.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and ability to perform routine inspections.
- Update documentation using a computerized system and provide written support to convey information.
- Close and secure campus, locking all doors and windows and turning off all lights, when requested.
- Model on a daily basis the conduct we expect of our students, and consistently exhibit the highest standards of professionalism.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills and an eagerness to extend oneself for others.
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Facilities or Head of School.
Working conditions:
- Work in an outdoor, office, and/or classroom setting in which standing, bending, walking, sitting, and using a computer screen for extended periods of time each day may be required.
- Ability to access buildings and facilities throughout a 20-acre campus, with reasonable accommodations, in order to meet with students and colleagues.
